## Aligned, Resilient, Confident.

Powered by Common Ground's LEAD Model—an adaptive approach to leadership development that blends coaching, peer learning, and experiential training to help leaders thrive.

## Our Leadership Paradigm

Common Ground's **LEAD Model** is a proven approach for cultivating adaptive, purpose-driven leaders. It's been tested around the world in a wide variety of contexts and formats.

Grounded in servant leadership, our model pushes participants to work toward goals larger than themselves while developing the skills to build trust, manage complexity, and collaborate across differences.

The model blends experiential learning, coaching, mentoring, and applied projects. Participants learn not just _about_ leadership but how to _practice_ it in real time—whether that means navigating a boardroom, leading a community initiative, or steering an organization through complicated change.

### LEAD Is Flexible By Design

The strength of the LEAD Model lies in its adaptability. Rather than a rigid curriculum, it's a framework that we shape around the needs, culture, and context of the leaders we're working with.

We've used the model to support very different audiences—and it works because the core principles of trust, collaboration, and applied learning translate everywhere:

- •

**Young Activists in Macedonia and Serbia** – convened in immersive academies where they built high-trust communities of practice, practiced advocacy, and confronted real social challenges head-on.

- •

**NGO Executives in Uganda** – engaged in a four-month leadership experience that blended workshops, mentorship, and coaching on finance, advocacy, and organizational resilience.

- •

**U.S. Student Leaders** – through SikhLEAD, where personal storytelling, identity, and civic advocacy became tools for building confidence and influence.

- •

**Leaders in Diverse U.S. Communities and Sectors** – where the model has been customized into executive coaching, peer learning networks, and adaptive leadership trainings that strengthen teams and prepare organizations for the future.

No two versions of LEAD look exactly alike. Each is designed around the local context, but the results are consistent: stronger leaders, deeper trust, and tangible action.

### Executive Coaching

One-on-one and team-based coaching that builds clarity, confidence, and accountability.

### Adaptive Leadership

Frameworks and practice for leading in uncertain, complex, or rapidly changing environments.

### Succession Planning

Practical strategies to identify and prepare emerging leaders for critical roles.

### Peer Mentoring

Cohort-based communities of practice where leaders learn from one another, build trust, and accelerate growth.

## The LEAD Model in Action

### LEAD Macedonia

We launched LEAD Macedonia to support young civic leaders in tackling corruption, weak civic engagement, and systemic barriers. Over the course of a seven-day academy, participants built strong "communities of practice," working across sectors to design solutions to the country's most pressing issues.

LEAD Macedonia created a trusted space where young leaders worked across divides to solve their country's toughest challenges.

### LEAD Uganda

Through LEAD Uganda, designed with USAID's Feed the Future initiative, we convened some of the nation's most respected leaders to address entrenched barriers in the agricultural sector. Participants worked across institutions and disciplines to create collaborative solutions that increased productivity and resilience.

The program gave us tools to link strategic planning with financial management. We are already applying this learning in our organizations.

I left with more confidence to engage donors, communicate results, and lead my team with resilience.

### SikhLEAD (United States)

In partnership with the Sikh American Legal Defense & Education Fund, SikhLEAD helped Sikh-American students unlock their leadership potential. For six years, the program integrated storytelling, visioning, and advocacy training. Participants practiced Street Speaking, crafted personal mission statements, and built networks that strengthen civic engagement and representation.

Six years of cultivating leadership in the Sikh-American community through storytelling, advocacy, and civic engagement.

### LEAD Zimbabwe

In partnership with Restless Development and the Citizen Engagement for Accountability Activity (CEAA), Common Ground delivered a transformative LEAD Academy for young leaders in Zimbabwe. The intensive program wove together signature interventions including Lifestories™ for authentic connection, Street Speaking™ to conquer public speaking fears, and Breaking Bread-Breaking Barriers™ to build trust. Participants progressed from "We Are Ready" to "We Are Powerful," developing personal mission statements, practicing public advocacy, mastering facilitation skills, and building the confidence and networks needed to drive community change and youth-led development.

### LEAD Serbia

LEAD Serbia, launched in 2024, supports a new generation of Serbian leaders. Over a seven-day residential academy in Niš, participants engaged in experiential activities—Life Stories, Cross the Line, and Street Speaking—that built trust, fostered empathy, and strengthened advocacy skills.

Evaluation results were striking: more than 80% of participants said the Academy exceeded expectations. Fellows consistently described it as transformative, citing new confidence, resilience, and motivation to act on issues they care about deeply.

The Academy completely exceeded my expectations—I would recommend it to everyone. I've never been part of such an incredible program before.

I'm grateful for the opportunity to meet amazing people who will be part of my life forever. It was the best seminar I've attended so far.

I was skeptical at first, but this program proved me wrong. It turned out to be one of the most useful and inspiring experiences I've ever had.

### Empower Uganda (NGO Leadership)

We developed Empower Uganda to support senior NGO leaders with the tools needed for organizational resilience and sustainability. Over four months, executive directors engaged in intensive workshops, mentorship, and project-based coaching. Topics ranged from financial leadership to advocacy, resource mobilization, and even the integration of AI into nonprofit management.

Participants applied lessons directly to organizational challenges like succession planning, crisis communications, and funding diversification—ensuring impact well beyond the program.

This training gave me practical tools for succession planning and resource mobilization. I can already see the difference in my organization.

The mentorship and coaching have been invaluable—I now feel prepared to lead through crises and seize opportunities.

## Why LEAD Works

The LEAD Model is not a fixed curriculum. It's a flexible framework that adapts to the needs of each group and context while staying grounded in core principles:

### Experiential

Leaders grow through practice, not lectures. Every program emphasizes doing, reflecting, and applying skills to real-world challenges.

### Adaptive

We design each academy or coaching experience around cultural, organizational, and community contexts. No two versions look the same, but all deliver measurable results.

### Trust-Centered

High-trust relationships are at the core of effective leadership. The LEAD Model creates spaces where leaders can be candid, vulnerable, and supportive—relationships that endure long after the program ends.

### Action-Oriented

Every program concludes with concrete outcomes: projects launched, advocacy initiatives advanced, or organizational changes implemented. The work doesn't stop when the training ends—it begins there.
